Field Trips
Weather and other conditions permitting, we sponsor or promote several field trips. Some of our field trips are one day in length, but many are overnight. We also provide information on field trips sponsored by other gem and mineral clubs throughout the West Coast.
Weather and other conditions permitting, we try to schedule a trip to Covelo, California, and we look for Covelo jade, serpentine and jasper. The location is past the town of Covelo on the Eel River. Walking on the riverbed is quite an experience but nothing beats actually finding a quality piece of jade or a wonderful specimen of red jasper with white stringers. We usually go up on a Friday and stay through Sunday, camping at a nearby campground. These trips require members to have their own camping equipment as there is no motel close by.
