Our Mission
The Sequoia Gem and Mineral Society (SGMS) was organized in 1963 to serve the community by providing education in the Earth Sciences and training in the lapidary arts. We promote sound resource stewardship and good fellowship.
We fulfill our mission through year-round offerings of field trips, lapidary workshops, classes, outreach presentations, public mineral displays, monthly informational meetings open to the public, plus our celebrated show, the Harvest of Gems and Minerals. Our next show will be held Saturday, October 13th. and Sunday, October 14th. 2024 at the Redwood City Communities Activity Building
For the last four years we have been a "Maker" at the annual Maker Faire, which has been held at the San Mateo County Fairgrounds in May. Over 1,000 children, their parents and friends came to our booth and learned how to polish a cabochon which they could keep forever.
Anyone with an interest in the Earth, rocks, minerals and fossils are welcome to attend our monthly meetings. Our meetings have been held at the Community Activities Building (CAB), 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, in Redwood City. We have also been holding our meetings via ZOOM. Please contact us for the upcoming show schedule.
Expect to hear a guest lecturer providing an interesting program on rocks and minerals; news on upcoming field trips and many other topics of interest. Refreshments are served and we hold a drawing for rock and mineral specimens. Go to our Upcoming Event Page for current listings of upcoming meetings, events and field trips.
