The Sequoia Gem and Mineral Society (SGMS) was organized in 1963 to serve the community by providing education in the Earth Sciences and training in the lapidary arts. We promote ethical, sound resource stewardship and good fellowship.
We fulfill our mission through year-round offerings of field trips, lapidary workshops, classes, outreach presentations, public mineral displays, monthly informational meetings open to the public, plus our celebrated show, the Harvest of Gems and Minerals. Our next show will be held in 2025, date TBD.
We share a lapidary shop with the Peninsula Gem & Geology Society.
It is located in the basement of the Garden House at Shoupe Park, 400 University Avenue, Los Altos, California. Classes. Click here for more information.
Anyone with an interest in the Earth, rocks, minerals and fossils are welcome to attend our monthly meetings. Expect to hear a guest lecturer providing an interesting program on rocks and minerals, news on upcoming field trips and many other topics of interest. Refreshments are served and we hold a drawing for rock and mineral specimens. Go to our Upcoming Event page for current listings of upcoming meetings, events and field trips.
